UNRCPD helps build capacity on small arms control in Myanmar, with support from ISACS

“UNRCPD [the UN Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific], in cooperation with the Government of Myanmar, organized a capacity-building workshop on small arms and light weapons (SALW) in Nay Pyi Taw, 23-24 February 2016. The purpose of the workshop was to assist relevant Government ministries and agencies in enhancing national control of SALW in Myanmar and thereby the ability to further implement the provisions of the UN Programme of Action on the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons and other international treaties and instruments relevant for the control of these arms.”

The workshop inlcuded a special session on ISACS and sessions focusing on developing a roadmap for ways forward on SALW control in Myanmar relied on guidance provided in ISACS modules 03.40 (National Coordination Mechanisms), 05.10 (Conducting an SALW Survey) and 04.10 (Designing and Implementing a National Action Plan).
